Welcome New Faculty

Harbor School is pleased to welcome new faculty for the 2017-18 school year. Ethan Cudaback joins us as our new Middle School math teacher; Nicky Wilks will be our new PE Teacher for Upper Elementary and Middle School; Kate Davidson joins the Carpe Diem K-3 teaching team; and Steve Ellis will be the Upper Elementary teaching assistant. Welcome Ethan, Nicky, Kate and Steve!

ethan webWelcome Ethan Cudaback - Middle School Math 

Ethan has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Washington and a Masters in Teaching Secondary Mathematics (grades 5-12) from Western Governors University.  Since September 2013, Ethan has taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Math Analysis, and AP Computer Science in the math department at Holy Names Academy in Seattle.

In addition to his math teaching experience, Ethan has also taught coding to middle school students, as well as beginning to advanced drumming, and beginning music theory, piano, and bass guitar to students of all ages. He is an accomplished carpenter and a self-described, one-time ‘ski bum.’ Together with his wife and two kids, Ethan has lived on Vashon for just over a year.

nicky webWelcome Nicky Wilks - PE Teacher, Grades 4-8

Nicky Wilks joins Harbor School in a part time capacity this year teaching PE to our students in grades 4-8 and assisting with our Life Skills program at other times in the year. Many know Nicky from his work with the Vashon Wilderness Program and more recently as founder and executive director of Journeymen Institute, a Vashon based nonprofit offering nature-based rites of passage and long-term mentorship opportunities for youth in the Puget Sound region. Nicky worked with us for a short time last year, assisting with our Life Skills program.

kate davidsonWelcome Kate Davidson - Carpe Diem Teacher, Grades K-3

Kate has a BA in Politics and Government from the University of Puget Sound and a Masters in Teaching from Seattle University. From 2011-2013 she taught Kindergarten at Chautauqua Elementary on Vashon. Prior to that she taught fourth grade in Los Altos and Kindergarten in Palo Alto, California. 

Kate has also worked in publishing for four years, overseeing post-production alignment between National Geographic School Publishing materials and local, state and national academic standards. She has lived on Vashon with her husband and daughter for the past 6 years.

Welcome Steve Ellis - Upper Elementary Assistant

Steve Ellis will be the part-time teaching assistant in our Upper Elementary. Steve is a qualified and experienced public and independent school teacher with decades of experience in various roles at Giddens School in Seattle. Most recently, Steve has assisted in the classroom at Carpe Diem, our K-3 program, as well as helping with our Life Skills program.
